Rev. William Corcoran
Fr. Bill was born in Virginia while his father was in the military. He graduated with a BA in Public/International Affairs from George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Initially, he worked in business at Amtrak headquarters in Washington DC and then, as Manager of Marketing at Exide batteries of Horsham PA. Testing a vocation to the priesthood, he took a job with Catholic Charities in the Diocese of Harrisburg where he oversaw marriage preparation, ministry to separated/divorced and diocesan food banks. In 1986 he finished at Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg MD with an MA in Theology and was ordained in Burlington VT. After assisting at two parishes, he was sent for a Masters (JCL) in Canon Law. Upon his return, he was installed as diocesan Vice Chancellor and pastor for the first of two parishes.
Having a background in business and Islamic studies, he was drafted to be regional director of the Pontifical Mission for Palestine based in Amman Jordan. This relief agency fed, healed and educated refugees in Iraq, Jordan and elsewhere in the Middle East. His years of service led to a post at the Vatican Congregation for Eastern Churches supportive of Melkite, Armenian and Ethiopian Catholics. Later positions included Vice President of Christian Children’s Fund (www.childfund.org) that supported the development of mothers and children in 32 countries; and CEO of American Near East Refugee Aid (www.anera.org) which provided emergency aid in Gaza, West Bank, Jordan and Lebanon.
Fr. Bill most recently served parishes in Carbondale, Dallas and Harvey’s Lake. He began his ministry in Williamsport in June 2018. In his free time, he enjoys eating ethnic food, reading and traveling.
