December 13 - During this crisis, I continue to be shocked when darkness arrives at 5pm. That's when the desire for a good hug seems the keenest. The nights are long and devoid of even the company of a parish meeting. Psalm 85:21 has a phrase that is so apt in Advent as we dream of better times. "Mercy and truth have embraced; righteousness and peace have kissed each other". This is the intimate hope for a world renewed when that baby arrives and stirs our hope. I find myself often staring at the delicate lights of the Christmas tree, meditating on Jesus as the light of the world. When quiet moments are forced on you, try to use the time to dwell on the beauty of decorations around you and remind yourself ...the Prince of Peace is coming.
